Online webinar on 'Avenues in Agriculture' organized at Mewar University

An online workshop was held on June 17, 2023 from 4 pm to 5.30 pm by the Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture & Veterinary Sciences of Mewar University. Sh. Gautam Singh Dhaked, Associate Dean, introduced the resource persons who included- Prof.(Dr.) Alok Misra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Mewar University, Dr. N.S. Rathore, Former DDG (Ag. Education & Ag. Engg., ICAR) and Former Vice Chancellor, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture & Technology, Udaipur, Dr. Govind Singh, Former Vice-Chancellor, Madhav University, Mount Abu, Prof. (Dr.) Jitendra Singh, (Horticulture), College of Horticulture & Forestry, Jhalawar etc. Dr. A. Raja, Registrar of Mewar University welcomed all the participants.

Dr. Alok Misra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Mewar University stressed on the need to increase agricultural production, both quantitatively and qualitatively through an ecosystem that can amalgamate Automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data etc.

Dr. N.S. Rathore, Former DDG (Ag. Education & Ag. Engg., ICAR) and Former Vice Chancellor, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture & Technology, Udaipurlaid emphasis on the use of technology in agriculture as a necessary tool to increase yields, while making it more cost-effective. He also emphasized on technological inventions ranging from seed drill to fertilising crops and spraying pesticides by drone(s).

Dr. Govind Singh, Former Vice-Chancellor, Madhav University, Mount Abu gave an account of various academic avenues in agriculture for higher education in specialized branches viz., biotechnology, post-harvest processing & value addition, agri-business management, forestry etc. for quality teaching and research in moulding students and ensuring eternal supply of qualified human resource chain for teaching, research and extension activities.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Professor (Horticulture). College of Horticulture & Forestry, Jhalawar stressed on the need for natural resource conservation and the various avenues associated with it. He emphasized on judicious usage of land and water resources to ensure sustainability and the various avenues associated with them.

Dr. Y. Sudarsan, Dean (Agriculture) of Mewar University briefly explained on the role of nutri-cereals which can be grown with minimal inputs. He further underscored on the need for re-orientation of various courses being taught in agriculture with the National Education Policy, 2020.

Dr. Deepak Mishra, Head presented Vote of Thanks to all the participants with laying emphasis on staying green for ever.
