The Department of Computer Science and Engineering & Computer Application organized a Guest Lecture on February 6, 2025 at Mewar University to provide an overview of Machine Learning, focusing on its applications, techniques and working of live example. The event was presided over by Mr B.L Pal, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The Lecture featured in-depth discussions on Machine Learning using Text Prediction spam Filter, Software Change using ensemble learning.
Session 1: Overview of Machine Learning
The Lecture commenced with an introductory session on Machine Learning , delivered by Mrs. Ushveen Kaur, Assistant Professor provided a comprehensive overview of Machine Learning .
Key Points Discussed:
Machine Learning: Imagine a normal day, where you have to take the cab for reaching college. Uber books your cab but does not show the price of the booked cab or the wait time. Will you be able to wait for the cab or decide whether to take the metro?
Programming & Machine Learning: Programminginvolves “Giving stepwise instructions to computers in order to perform a task.”
Machine Learning is “Make the machine learn to perform a task from a collection of examples.”
Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence:Machine learning means learning from data; AI is a buzzword.
Everyday Machine Learning: The auto-suggest on phone keyboard, that suggests what word we might want to write next is trained on examples of what we have typed before.
Session 2: Software change prediction using Ensemble Learning Algorithms
Key Highlights:
Software Change:
Software has become an integral part of all our daily processes:
Simple Tasks: Booking a cab, ordering a meal
Complex high-end set-ups: Teaching-learning environments, Industry 5.0
Change is mandatory in software for it to remain useful.
Software Evolution is the process of planning and implementing change to existing software systems.
What is the need of Software Change?
Existence of Defects: Existing defects need to be identified and corrected as soon as possible.
Change in Requirements: Changes required because of company changes such as new product or restructuring.
Technological Change: Technology is changing at a rapid rate.
Software Quality & Software Change: IEEE defines software quality as:
The degree to which a system, component, or process meets specific requirements.
The degree to which a system, component, or process meets customer or user needs or expectations.
Session 3: Text Analysis
Text Data Analysis refers to the process of analyzing and extracting meaningful patterns, trends, and insights from textual data using computational methods.
Why Text Analysis:
1. Filtering Spam Mail
2. Job Resume Screening
3. News Classification
4. Job Resume Screening
Conclusion
The Lecture concluded with a Q&A session where students discussed the various Applications and techniques covered during the Lecture.
Acknowledgments:
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering would like to thank all the speakers, organizers, and participants who contributed to the success of the Lecture. Special thanks to Mr. B.L. Pal, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering for their support.
