Traditional Chhau dance presented by the artist from Purulia West Bengal at Mewar University on 21st April 2023
 
Mewar University, Chittorgarh, organized the traditional Chhau dance of West Bengal by the artist from Purulia, West Bengal, under the aegis of the SPIC MACAY local chapter https://spicmacay.org/ on Friday. The event was inaugurated by Mewar University Chancellor Ashok Kumar Gadiya. The vice chancellor, Dr. Alok Mishra, and the registrar, Dr. R. Raja, were also present at this function. Speaking on the occasion, J.P. Bhatnagar, former Chairman of SPIC MACAY, informed that the Chhau dance is a tribal martial art style of India that is popular in Orissa, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
The program was organized under the direction of the Dean of Fine Arts at Mewar University, Dr. Chitralekha Singh. Chhau artist Tamal Kanti Rajak and his 16 co-artists gave very beautiful performances. The artists enthralled everyone by performing folk dances in the form of peacocks. Purlia artists depicted Mahishasur Mardini and other cultures with very beautiful masks through dance. On this occasion, university staff and students were present. The program was conducted by Aakriti, a student of yoga. In the end, all the artists were honored by Dr. Ashok Kumar Gadiya, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Alok Mishra.
