Guest Lecture on the topic “Patent Drafting, Litigation and Prosecution.”

The Faculty of Legal Studies, Mewar University, organised a guest lecture on 30th October 2025 on the topic “Patent Drafting, Litigation and Prosecution.” The lecture was delivered by Dr. Kanika Malik, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR–NIScPR, New Delhi, Government of India. The event aimed to enhance students’ understanding of intellectual property law, particularly the practical aspects of drafting, prosecuting, and litigating patents.

The session began with a warm welcome by Mrs. Geetanjali Sharma, Head of the Department, Faculty of Legal Studies, who introduced the distinguished speaker and highlighted the growing importance of intellectual property rights in the modern innovation-driven world. Dr. Malik delivered an insightful and comprehensive lecture, explaining the nuances of patent specification drafting, the structure and purpose of claims, and the legal strategies involved in patent prosecution before national and international patent offices. She also elaborated on litigation strategies, enforcement of patent rights, and the remedies available to patentees under Indian law.

The lecture was highly interactive, with students actively participating in the discussion. Dr. Malik encouraged questions and responded with practical examples drawn from her vast professional experience. The session effectively bridged the gap between theoretical legal study and its practical application in the field of intellectual property management and protection.

Towards the end, Mr. Eshan Singhal delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Dr. Malik for her valuable insights, to the Head of Department for her guidance, and to all students and faculty members for their enthusiastic participation. The guest lecture was an enriching experience, providing participants with deeper knowledge and practical understanding of patent law, and inspiring many to explore careers in the domain of intellectual property rights. The other law faculty members, Mr Nitin Tripathi, Mr Ambuj Mishra, and Mr Pradyumn Sharma, were also present during the lecture.
