The Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Mewar University, organized an Industrial Visit to Kota Super Thermal Power Station (KSTPS), Kota, on 3rd and 4th September 2025 with the support of the Training and Placement Department, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dean & Dy. Dean of Engineering, and the Heads of concerned Departments.
Students from Diploma and B.Tech were present for the visit, with a total of 77 students participating. The visit on 3rd September 2025 was coordinated by Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Head of Mechanical Engineering, and Mr. Deepak Kumar Joshi, Head of Electrical Engineering. On 4th September 2025, the visit was coordinated by Mr. Gaurav Kumar, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, and Mr. Manoj Kumar, Office Assistant, Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Students were informed about the schedule a day prior, and they followed all instructions provided by Dy. Dean Mr. Kapil Nahar.
The University arranged transportation facilities, drinking water, and other necessary arrangements, ensuring the comfort of students. The bus reached the plant premises on time, where they were warmly received by the Training Department of KSTPS. Detailed explanations about the plant’s processes, working mechanisms, and technical systems were provided by Sh. Tushar Rathore, Junior Engineer (Training), KSTPS, RVUN.
The students were introduced to various aspects of thermal power generation such as:
1. Coal Handling System and Boiler Operations
2. Steam Turbine Mechanisms and Condenser Units
3. Cooling Tower Operations
4. Control Room and Instrumentation Systems
5. Environmental Management and Emission Control Practices
During the visit, the students actively interacted with the engineers of KSTPS. A Q&A session was conducted, where students raised queries related to:
1. Boiler operation efficiency
2. Steam turbine and condenser functioning
3. Cooling tower design and maintenance
4. Control room automation
5. Safety protocols and environmental concerns
All queries were addressed comprehensively by the KSTPS experts. The students maintained discipline throughout the visit and adhered strictly to the safety guidelines provided by the plant authorities and faculty members.
The faculty members also guided students during the tour, explaining technical concepts and clearing their doubts in real time. The interaction with plant engineers provided insights into career opportunities, skill requirements, and professional expectations in the energy sector.
The visit proved to be highly fruitful and educational. It enhanced the students’ practical knowledge of thermal power generation, familiarized them with large-scale industrial operations, and encouraged them to think of innovative ideas for their future academic projects.
The Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering expresses heartfelt gratitude to the KSTPS authorities, Sh. Tushar Rathore (JEN, Training), and the Training & Placement Cell of Mewar University for their continuous support and cooperation in making this industrial visit a grand success.
