REPORT

A two day National Seminar on “Interdisciplinary Approaches in Science and Technology” (IAST-2017) was organized by the Faculty of Science, Mewar University. The seminar was inaugurated on May 29, 2017 at 10.00 AM  in Maharana Pratap Seminar Hall, Mewar University, Chittorgarh, with the traditional ritual of garlanding Godess Saraswati by distinguished guests to invoke her blessings.

The event commenced with the welcome address by Prof. V N R Pillai indicating the theme of seminar.

The  Inaugural Keynote address was delivered by the Chief Guest Dr. T. Ramasami, Former Secretary, DST, New Delhi {Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2014) Awardee} on “Delight of  life with research”. By the term ‘delight of life’ he meant that the purpose of any research should be to elevate the level of happiness in society and the research should address the practical problems of the society and the nation and must give a solution to the same. In his motivating address, he illustrated how 16 lakh students were motivated to go for research at their early education by a programme ‘INSPIRE’’ that he had developed to encourage research in the field of science. He also mentioned  how to a great extent he could solve the problem of unemployment and water pollution created by the leather industries  in Tamilnadu.

The Presidential address was given by Dr. Ashok Kumar Gadiya, Chairperson in which he suggested the researchers the possible avenues for research where they can solve the problems of the nearby industrial areas of the University. He indicated towards the waste left by mining industries, marble industries, cement industries, and textile industries and invited researchers to work on it.

Prof. R.K. Paliwal, Chief Convenor, gave the vote of thanks in inaugural session.

On the first day of IACT-2017, Prof. M. L. Kalra, Ex V.C., Kota University, Kota, delivered his lecture on “Recent trends of research in superconductivity”. Dr. M. S. Sisodia,  Professor of Geology, J N Vyas University, Jodhpur, spoke on the Meteorite Impact Craters: Identification, Importance and Economic Potential which are related to case histories from India. Prof. V K Vaidya, Dept. of Chemistry, Mewar University, discussed on the Research in Photochemistry and future scope in this field.  Dr. Navneet Agarwal from CTAE, Udaipur delivered his lecture on the Data Mining and its Scope in Image Processing

The second day of IAST-2017 began with the lecture by Dr. Ramphal Sharma from  Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He explained the basics of crystals used in solid state and condensed matter physics and concluded his lecture indicating the recent research areas in the field of nanotechnology.

Dr. S. C. Ameta, Pacific University, Udaipur,suggested some Basic Conceptual Errors in Chemistry Teaching.

Dr. S. L. Kakani, Former Prof., Dept. of Physics Govt. College, Bhilwara, presented his views on the recent advances in Nanotechnology.

Dr. K. G. Ojha,Former Prof., Dept. of Chemistry, M.D.S. University, Ajmer, delivered his lecture on  Transition metal complexes as homogeneous catalysts in organic synthesis

Dr. Abhishek Mathur, Sr. Scientist & Head (Technical) at Environmental Biotech & Engineering Company (EBEC-NCFT), New Delhi, presented the recent Antimicrobial Studies of Trichoderma Fused and Chitosan Fused Silver Nanoparticles

Dr. B. L. Jagetia, Head, Dept. Of Botany, M L V Govt. College, Bhilwara,delivered his speech on the Phytoremediation and also suggested how to make good projects and to get the funding from the government agencies.

In the valedictory fucntion Prof. V. N. R. Pillai, President, Mewar University, expressed his views on the topic ‘Physical and Life Science Interface’. He addressed the audience with a motivating speech and gave best wishes to all the participants.

During the Valedictorythe participants and the invited speakers of the seminar interacted and shared their views. The particiapnts of the seminar also expressed their wish to attend such events by the University in future as well.

The certificates were distributed by the Hon’ble President Prof. Pillai to all the participants  and also to the distinguished speakers invited to the seminar.

Prof. V K Vaidyadealt with the details of the seminar and gave the vote of thanks.
