Chittorgarh: A seminar on ‘Preamble of the Constitution’ was organized on November 26, 2015 at Mewar University by the Department of Law to celebrate the Law Day. Senior Advocate Mr. A. S. Anchliya, who hails from Bhilwara, was the chief guest on the occasion. Mr. M. Sudarshanam, Registrar, Mewar University and Dr. R. K. Paliwal, Dean, Mewar University were the other noted members who graced the occasion with their presence.

The seminar started with traditional Lamp Lighting ceremony. Later, Registrar, M. Sudarshanam urged students not to break law from this law day. Dean Mr. R. K. Paliwal extended the discussion with information related to law day and how our constitution was adopted. Chief Guest of the Day Shri A. S. Anchliya later dwelt on the importance of Preamble. He stated how preamble explains the working of the state. He further explained how Preamble makes People of India as the ultimate source of all authority. He emphasized the importance of basic elements of Preamble viz.; Socialist, Sovereign, Secular, Democracy & Fraternity. He also brought in the four objects of Preamble viz.; Justice, Liberty, Equality & Fraternity into the discussion table.

Ms. Shruti Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Law was the next speaker who brought to the fore important debates in the history of the making of Preamble. She also touched upon the recent controversy created around the picture of original Preamble posted by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, which excluded the words secular & socialist. She also pointed out that these words were not part of the original Preamble; however, secularism & socialism have always been the guiding principles of our constitution. Mr. Khan Shahab Alam,  Associate Lecturer, Department of Law the last speaker for the seminar took the audience through various glimpses of the making of the constitution. He also brought to the notice of the audience that our constitution has been majorly constructed from the Government of India Act, 1935.
