To celebrate the spirit of democratic freedom enshrined in our constitution, students organized a mock parliamentary debate on the occasion of the Constitution Day. Students in groups held animated discussions on issues like Article 370, Dowry Act, Women Empowerment, and tolerance in the same fashion as these issues are debated in Parliament.

Ms. Rekha Agarwal, Supreme Court Lawyer, was the guest of honor on the occasion.  Ms. Agarwal underscored the role that judicial system plays in a democratic society. She expressed concern that media trial is happening these days before the judicial trial, which undermines the judicial process. She also pointed out the need of good lawyers in India in view the burgeoning workload on the judiciary and the emergence of new fields in the legal profession.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashok Kumar Gadiya, Chairperson, Mewar University, stated that our vision is to produce lawyers who will get justice done for the people of the poor and downtrodden sections of the society. Dr. Gadiya pointed out that the students should not only succeed in making a successful career out of legal profession but also take a pledge to serve the poorest of the poor when it comes to providing legal help.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Alka Agarwal.  She stated that the law students of Mewar keep organizing legal help camps at places including Tihar Jail in keeping with the vision of the Mewar Group of Institutes. Bharat Bhushan, Director General, Mewar Law Institute, also graced the occasion. The function was coordinated by Heena Sharma. All the students, faculty members and staff were present on the occasion.
